When we hosted this beautiful Church Wedding last August, Collins Marquees arrived early to set up their marquee on the lower lawn. The couple were getting married in the bride’s local church in Poole so were not using the Gazebo for their ceremony.

The weather was overcast but the forecast for the weekend was glorious..
Friday brought friends and relations of the couple to decorate the marquee and set up games on the main lawn. Huge amounts of work had been carried out in the weeks leading up to the wedding and many of the extras arrived ready assembled -
Fleece rugs and cosy slippers in baskets, photographs ready to go on their stand and props for the photo booth. ready to lay out on their table
The groom had installed a photo system on his laptop and had built a frame for guests to pose behind. He spent some time perfecting the system!
Friends finished writing out the name tags for the seating plan.
Tables were set out in long lines and laid up ready for the wedding breakfast. A hessian runner and garden flowers were placed down the centre . In the spirit of this home crafted wedding, the hessian runner was made by a friend and the flowers all came from the garden of the Bride’s mother!
Each setting had a sprig of rosemary, cut from our garden, for remembrance, tied with a tag showing the name of each guest.
Beautiful candle sticks with battery operated candles finished the tables off.
The bride’s mother and aunt wound ivy and other greenery round the tent poles - simple but very effective.
The Rolling Barrel Bar company arrived to set up their bar at the end of the marquee -

Final touches were put in place, before everyone left for the day -
Extra cushions went onto the sofas and drink was put into the huge fridges that had been delivered into the catering tent by Wessex Catering who had also provided the cutlery and plates and ovens.

One of their friends had even brought a shelf of extras for the ladies loo!
Lanterns appeared along the wall dividing the two lawns and a board showing the timings for the day put at the top of the steps.
Lastly, before they left, they placed all the flowers into the porch of the house to keep cool overnight.
On the morning of the wedding, the groom’s parents popped over from the AirBNB they were staying in just over the river to open the marquee and put the flowers back on the tables.

The bride’s mother made the most amazing wedding cake which was place on a table in the corner with sword ready to cut it. This had belonged to the Bride’s late grandfather who had served in the RAF.
With the ancestor ready to receive them, we got the head’s up that the couple were on their way and soon a small yellow triumph TR5 appeared up the avenue, closely followed by a stream of guests.
The Groom’s mother was waiting to hand the bride her bouquet. The bride had managed to complete a long car journey in a fairly small car without creasing her dress!
The dress was absolutely beautiful, very simple but skilfully cut, with long chiffon sleaves, a sweetheart neckline and a sculptured skirt. The back was stunning with the bodice cut to the waist and the stiff skirt and train flowing out behind.
The bride was quickly joined by her three adult bridesmaids, dressed identically in dark red satin dresses, who held her train as she went onto the lawn to meet her guests.
Flowers had been brought from the church and were positioned by the main entrance to the marquee, along with a welcome sign.
Delicious canapes began to be handed round, as guests chatted on the lawns or made use of the games that had been laid out the day before.
Having circulated amongst their guests the couple went into the house to have some photographs taken on the stairs ………..
……….. before making their grand exit through the dining room windows to a storm of confetti
With the guests already assembled, the photographer shot upstairs to take a group shot from bathroom window.
Time to have time alone, as Chloe Palmer took some informal photographs of the bride and groom as a married couple.
Group photographs followed - some more relaxed than others!
Red Cherry Catering announced that the Wedding Breakfast was ready to serve. This was to be a Greek Style Sharing Menu.
Guests made their way into the marquee to take their places. They stood to welcome the couple as they entered.
With delicious, gloriously wicked puddings, devoured, speeches began, well supported with notes!
Then the Bride came up to speak - a new tradition which thankfully was not in place when I got married 50 years ago.
Back out onto the lawn for a beautiful last photograph with her flower girl before Chloe left for the day.
The lack of a photographer did not halt the celebrations,
The Guests loved the photobooth, where the Bride’s mother still manage to look glamorous even when wearing a funny hat and sunglasses! She even managed to get find a hat to tone with her outfit.
Dorset Pizza Kitchen arrived to set up in the field behind the gazebo and darkness fell began to serve their wares to those who still had any room after their delicious lunch - all delicious and with a large variety of toppings.

The Party did not stop when the guests left to go to their beds as the couple had arranged for everyone to return for Brunch the next day.
Any hangovers were quickly killed by a cup of strong coffee from the Filter Machines they had borrowed from the coffee firm in our stables and filled with the coffee that the couple had chosen.
